Many migraine patients are uncertain when—or if—they should see a physician about their headaches. But you can talk to your doctor about your symptoms, receive a diagnosis, and discuss treatment options that are appropriate for you. You should see your doctor if
- Headaches are interfering with your life
- Pain relievers have stopped being effective or you find yourself taking pain relievers more frequently or in increasing amounts
- You are missing work or limiting your activities
- Your headache is accompanied by nausea or vomiting
- Your headache is always on the same side
- Your headache changes in severity or character
